Stay secure - important message about access to Service homes

There have been some recent reports of incidents where people have tried to gain unauthorised access to Service Family Accommodation.

All families are advised that it is very rare for CarillionAmey or Defence Infrastructure Organisation staff to turn up unannounced, and in particular they will not turn up to undertake unannounced work or inspections.

We ask that all Service families remain vigilant when receiving unexpected visits and ask to see identification.  If you receive an unexpected request to undertake work and wish to check credentials please call the CarillionAmey Helpdesk on 0800 707 6000.  If you have any concerns about your security please contact the Police or your local security section/guardroom immediately.  Any additional information regarding Description of Callers and Vehicle Details may assist in any subsequent investigation.

In addition, if you see any suspicious activity in your area, including people or vehicles, please take the details and pass them to the Police or security section.  Do not potentially put yourself in danger by confronting anyone.

Forces Help To Buy Scheme (FHTB)

The Forces Help To Buy Scheme (FHTB), which was launched on 1 April 2014, enables Service personnel to borrow up to half their annual salary (up to a maximum of £25,000) to help purchase a property and several hundred Service personnel have so far taken advantage of the Scheme to get on the property ladder.
However, not all Mortgage lenders will currently accept applications from individuals who plan to make use of the FHTB Scheme and potential applicants are urged to make their Bank or Building Society aware of the FHTB before making a formal application. This is important, as refusal of a mortgage application can affect your credit rating.
Unfortunately, the Ministry of Defence is not permitted to publish the names of lenders who do or don't accept applications using the FHTB.
Finally, potential FHTB applicants are advised not to commit to ending tenancies, booking removals etc, before final confirmation of both FHTB loans and mortgages are received.

Mental Health Awareness App for Armed Forces Veterans

A free, unique mental health awareness app is available for armed forces veterans to download.

Mental Health app running on an iPhone
Following the successful launch of the innovative Joining Forces mental health awareness app for serving military personnel, a similar app is now also available for veterans.

The Veterans Mental Heath app includes help and guidance on key mental conditions, much like the Joining Forces app.

It also features videos of veterans telling their own stories. One veteran who has used the app said:
It really helped me to know I am not alone.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, so there is no better time for armed forces personnel and veterans to download the apps for free on Apple or Android devices to receive guidance and identify with those in similar situations.

The Ministry of Defence is committed to providing access to mental health services to members of the armed forces, their families and veterans.

This includes access to the Combat Stress 24-hour helpline, e-learning packages for GPs, and theBig White Wall, an online service providing help 24/7.
